Emily Blunt is negotiating the lead for Sicario, the next film from director Denis Villeneuve, best known for last year's thriller Prisoners.

Villeneuve has been attached to this latest film, scripted by Taylor Sheridan, since late last year, according to Slash Film. The feature sounds like it covers Villeneuve's typical thriller territory while his other upcoming film, Story of Your Life, falls into the sci-fi camp, a first for him.

Variety reports that the film follows a Tuscon, Arizona cop (Blunt) who teams up with two mercenaries to head down to Mexico and trap a vicious drug lord. They, of course, get swept up in a wave of violence and depravity. It's being pitched as in the same vein of No Country for Old Men to give you an idea.

Sicario will begin filming later this summer, and soon begin work on Story of Your Life in early 2015.

Blunt seems to be in demand in Hollywood now, as she'll also be showing up as a star later this year in both Disney's family film Into the Woods and Warner Bros' The Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise.
