An African exchange student fell to his death on March 11 after consuming a marijuana cookie, which the coroner has ruled a contributing factor to his accidental death.

Levi Thamba Pongi from the Northwest College in Wyoming was on spring break in Denver and decided to try a marijuana cookie along with several other students, according to the Denver Post. After eating the cookie, he fell off a hotel balcony.

The coroner announced on Wednesday that the cause of death was accidental and due to "multiple injuries due to a fall from height." The coroner added that consuming the cookie contributed to Pongi's death.

Reuters reports that he and his three friends tried the cookies in their hotel room and it made Pongi hyper and he "went off the wall," said Michelle Weiss-Samaras, the medical examiner's spokeswoman.

While his friends attempted to calm him down, they said he jumped from the hotel balcony. Pongi was found to have a 7.2-nanogram-per-milliter level of THC in his system, which is slightly above the impairment-level of 5-nanogram.

Weiss-Samaras said the medical examiner had to factor in the pot cookie due to no other substances found to be in Pongi's system and he is said to have not been suicidal. "We just don't know how any one person will react."
