A Florida school district is looking to enforce a dress code past the students to their parents.
According to The New York Daily News, Rosalind Osgood, a member of the Broward County School Board, said in a meeting earlier this month that she felt too many parents were dressing that violated the school dress code and that it was difficult for her to tell her child not to do something that she is doing herself.
"If we're going to train little boys and little girls to dress appropriately at school, no sagging pants, no hair curlers, no short shorts. Parents should follow the same rules,"
While it may be difficult for Osgood, who believes parents should live in the way of ‘practice what you preach’, other parents do not quite share her philosophy and choose to live by the slightly hypocritical, ‘do as I say, not as I do,’ which gives a message that children should simply do as they’re told without question.
A blogger who goes by Mama Sass on The Miami Herald poked fun at Osgood in her article and stated the seemingly obvious, which Osgood ignored.
"Schools have dress codes for students because they spend the entire day there. My fuzzy bunny slippers will not interfere with their learning."
Mama Sass also points out there are other, more serious problems to deal with in schools, such as gun violence and language barriers.
Osgood, however, is serious in her endeavor to enforce a parental dress code and has asked that another meeting be held in September.
“As a parent, my morning responsibility is to get my child to school on time. If I do that, does it really matter if I’m wearing a tennis outfit or the little black dress left over from the night before? I agree that butt cheeks and cleavage are better kept under cover. But don’t begrudge me if I don’t have time before dawn to sparkle,” Mama Sass wrote, perhaps stating what all parents do.
