A car crashed through walls of a church in Fort Myers, Florida just as an Easter service was about to begin Sunday night. The accident injured 18 people who were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The Lexus drove into the building of the Second Haitian Baptist Church when the driver claimed the brakes had malfunctioned, reported the Associated Press. Prior to the malfunctioning of the car, the driver had been looking for a parking spot.

Vehicle jacks and excessive force were used free the victims underneath the car, reported CNN .

Almost 200 people had been in attendance of the church service when the car ran through brick outer wall and many rows of pews. The structure is not in danger of falling however according to the Lee Country’s EMS operations chief, Benjamin Abes and Medico.

Those injured were taken to Lee County hospitals. Of the 18 people, three are children and four are trauma patients.
