A woman in Florida was attacked bears in her own garage Saturday evening.

According to The Daily Mail, the unidentified, 45-year-old ,woman went into her garage Saturday evening and saw as many as five black bears digging through her garbage cans.

Seminole County Sheriff Lt. Pete Brenenstuhl said that as soon as the woman stepped into her garage, the bears pounced on her, effectively mauling her. The woman’s body was marred by scrapes and cuts as the bears dragged from her garage into the driveway.

When she managed to escape, she ran inside and her husband called 911. She was taken to a hospital and treated for her wounds.

Because the woman stated that the bears were of “varying sizes”, Sheriff Lt. Brenenstuhl believes that they may have been from the same family.

According to CNN, hours before the woman was attacked, Florida wildlife officials alerted the public that black bears and their cubs would be searching for food now that they’ve awoken from winter hibernation.

Residents were urged to use bear-resistant trash cans to prevent attacks such as what happened to the unidentified woman in her garage.
