A Fordham University alumnus was found dead in a restroom at the school’s Lincoln Center on Monday.
According to the Fordham Ram, the university confirmed that the deceased was Nahom M. Kidanemariam, a student who graduated in 2009 and was a member of the football team.
University President Rev. Joseph M. McShane expressed his condolences to Kidanemariam’s family and those who knew him.
“Our hearts are broken today with the loss of this young, talented alumnus,” he said. “I cannot imagine his family’s pain, nor the sense of loss his classmates and friends are feeling. I know that the Fordham community joins me in holding Nahom’s family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.”
The Fordham Observer has reported that the university believes that Kidanemariam used his alumni ID to access the campus building.
The 28-year-old former graduate was an accounting major from Ottawa, Ontario.
His death appears to be a suicide and police do not suspect foul play, however, the investigation is still ongoing.
