The soundtrack for Frozen continues to reign supreme, leaving the rest of the music industry in its wake. The album earned its eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, making it the most successful album since Adele’s 21.
Frozen sold another 161,000 copies last week through March 30, according to Nielsen SoundScan data, reports Billboard. While that’s a 20-percent drop from the previous week, which was its biggest sales week, it was still enough to top Shakira’s new album.
The album is now up to 1.8 million copies sold and is the top-selling album of 2014, since it sold 1.5 million of those this year. It is only the 20th album since 1991 to have at least eight weeks at No. 1 and has had the most weeks at No. 1 since 21 scored 24 weeks.
Shakira’s new self-titled release only sold 84,000 copies, but its No. 2 debut is her highest chart position yet. It actually sold less copies than 2009’s She Wolf, which started at No. 15 despite selling 89,000 copies.
Johnny Cash came in at No. 3 with Out Among The Stars, a collection of songs recorded in the early 1980s by the late legend. It sold 54,000 copies and also started at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart.
Memphis May Fire’s Unconditional started its run at No. 4 with 27,000 copies sold. G I R L from Pharrell Williams rose to No. 5 with 25,000 copies.
The rest of the top 10 features Erica Campbell’s Help (23,000 copies); YG’s My Krazy Life (23,000); Barry Manilow’s Night songs (22,000); My Chemical Romance’s May Death Never Stop You collection (20,000); and Lorde’s Pure Heroine (20,000).
Williams’ “Happy” hit keeps on dominating the Digital Songs Chart with 321,000 downloads this past week.
