Goonies director Richard Donner reportedly has said that a sequel to the original '80s film is finally in the works.
According to TMZ, who first reported the news, Donner first revealed the film is going ahead while signing autographs in Beverly Hills and talking with photogs.
He casually revealed the news while being asked about the overabundance of superhero films. The veteran director also noted that he would like the original cast to return for the film, but didn't expand beyond that.
The original cast consisted of Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Martha Plimpton and Jeff Cohen, notes Variety.
There have been rumors for years about a possible sequel, and back in 2012, Astin seemed pretty convinced while talking with IGN that a sequel would eventually get made, even though it had been nearly 27 years since the original back when he made the comments.
"It will happen," Astin said as he was promoting the TV cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. "I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it."
