Singers M.I.A. and Janelle Monae performed on Thursday night at a show involving holograms. M.I.A. performed in New York while Monae sang on the West Coast.

The duet was sponsored by Audi. According to the Associated Press, Monae said, "I wish I were in the audience because I'm sure it looked cooler from the audience, but it felt great.”

M.I.A. said that she like the idea of holograms because you can be in 10 places at once. Monae said that she would like to experiment more with holograms. M.I.A. recently released Matangi and is busy with a fashion collection for Versace. Her previous albums include Kala and Maya.

Monae had six Grammy nominations. Monae’s albums include Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase), The Arch Android, and The Electric Lady. Monae was chosen to be a Cover Girl spokesperson. According to Slate, she recently released a cover song of David Bowie’s song, “Heroes.” The song is both futuristic and funk. The song is part of a Pepsi campaign.

Both recording artists are touring with their previous albums.
