Comedian Jerry Lewis is calling out women in comedy for having the same crude humor men have.
In an interview with AP, Lewis said "seeing a woman project the kind of aggression that you have to project as a comic just rubs me wrong.” He continued his view as he praised women who use what he would call “classy comedy.”
Comedians like Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman are taking a new direction in comedy to keep up with the men in the industry. They have become top entertainers and have gotten their own shows on TV. They’ve also become best-selling authors and have sold out comedy tours all because of their crude approach to humor.
Lewis was honored at TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday for his work in the comedy industry. He attended the event where his footprints and handprints were pressed into a block of wet cement to be displayed at the venue.
In May of 2013, The Wrap reported Lewis had a misogynistic view of women in comedy, saying his favorite women comedians are Burt Reynolds and Cary Grant.
