The White House might not like it when selfies with President Barack Obama are used for commercial purposes, but the administration clearly doesn’t mind using them for political reasons. Vice President Joe Biden posted a selfe with Obama to christen his Instagram page in Biden’s latest move on social media. Of course, this is all timed for the November midterm elections.
On Instagram, Biden posted a picture of himself with Obama, cramming into one shot in the back of the president’s car. “Found a friend to join my first selfie on Instagram. Thanks for following and stay tuned. –VP,” reads the caption.
Since being posted over 15 hours ago, it has earned 31,300 likes. The Instagram account previously posted images of Biden at work, including one of him giving a speech.
Earlier this month, Biden posted on his personal Twitter account for the first time in over a year. Since then, it has been used to share quotes and other pictures. The account is run by the Democratic National Committee and was launched as Biden will start campaigning for Democratic candidates during the midterms.
Of course, this selfie with the president comes after the controversial one with Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. When it was revealed that Ortiz has a deal with Samsung, the White House said that it “objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes.”
