Prankster of the century, 43-year-old Johnny Knoxville signed on to be the voice of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle leader, Leonardo in the upcoming film produced by Michael Bay.
The edgy Johnny Knoxville has been having a successful streak after his appearance in 2013’s Bad Grandpa. The hit comedy rose in the box office and accumulated $32 million in the first week. Stephen Prouty, the lead makeup effects artist was nominated for an Academy award due to his amazing work on the film, according to Rolling Stone.
Tony Shalhoub, who played the world’s favorite obsessive-compulsive detective in Monk has signed on to voice Splinter, the wise martial arts teacher. The action-packed film directed by Jonathon Liebesman, will make its movie theatre debut on August 8th. Whoopi Goldberg, Will Arnett and Megan Fox also appear in the movie.
During the physical filming of the movie, Pete Ploszek stood in for Leonardo while Danny Woodburn appeared as Splinter. The film was always open to the idea of using different voices—the physical actors were never promised that their voices would carry over to the final cut of the movie.
Freddie Prinze Jr, Russell Brand and Corey Feldman are all rumored to be voice actors for the film, as reported by The Independent.
