Writer/director/actor Jon Favreau is returning to the field that made him famous - comedy. Favreau, who in recent years has tackled Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, went back to comedy for Chef. The SXSW festival opener has just received its first trailer, giving anyone who couldn’t make it to Austin a taste of what to expect.
In the film, Favreau plays a popular chef who lets his ego get in the way while working at a restaurant. His boss (Dustin Hoffman) fires him and he’s left to find some other way to make a name for himself. He decides to buy his own food truck after a wealthy friend (Robert Downey Jr.) tells him how popular they have become.
The star-studded cast includes Robert Downey Jr., John Leguizamo, Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson and Sofia Vergara. Chef earned good reviews out of SXSW, with a few quotes in the trailer.
Chef is Favreau’s first film as director since Cowboys & Aliens. He is reportedly directing Disney’s The Jungle Book film next.
Open Road is releasing Chef on May 9.
