HBO is reportedly bringing back The Comeback, the cult series from 2005 that featured Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, a sitcom star trying to revive her career.
The Comeback lasted only one season and 13 episodes, but earned three Emmy nominations. Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City, 2 Broke Girls) was nominated for directing, while Kudrow was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. The third nomination went to casting.
Kudrow, who is best known for Friends and currently does Web Therapy for Showtime, co-starred with Malin Akerman, Robert Bagnell, Lance Barber and Kellan Lutz. It was shot in the now-common documentary style format.
Sources confirmed to E! News that the show is coming back, although HBO hasn’t officially said anything. Akerman and Lutz are expected to make recurring appearances based on their schedule. King and Amy B. Harris will be involved in the new season.
Deadline first reported in March that the show would be making a comeback as a limited series.
