Lorde made her Coachella debut on Day 2 of the festival, and at only 17 years old, she performed on the second largest stage.
On Day 2, the Empire Polo Club was swept away with a massive sand storm. But Lorde’s fans endured the wind in support of their favorite New Zealander. Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, stage name Lorde, is a singer-songwriter. She played every song the crowd would have wanted to hear, opening with “Glory Gore,” and following with tunes such as “Team” and “Tennis Court.”
According to Billboard.com Lorde spoke to the crowd saying, “I was screaming on the phone” when she booked Coachella. “We are so lucky to be here. This is mental,” she continued. She dressed in all white, with a crop top and flowy pants and wavy hair pinned back by the breeze. That is until she did an outfit change, which is very unusual of Coachella, into a gold dress – looking very royal.
U-T San Diego reports on Lorde’s “quiet confidence” and “precision” during her set. Though not the main stage, the outdoor stage she performed on still had credibility with Pharrell as the major headliner following her act, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Miss Lorde.
It will be expected to see Lorde on the lineup again in the coming years. Those going to weekend 2 are in for a treat.
