New Zealand-born singer, Lorde, has met the inspiration behind her massive hit “Royals,” baseball player George Brett.

Brett didn’t inspire the message behind the song, but he did give her the idea for the title of the song that put her on the map in the music industry.

Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, came across an old National Geographic photo of Kansas City Royals’ Brett, whose baseball jersey read their team name “Royals” on it.

“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs,” Lorde told Vh1 of the 1976 image. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’”

”It was just that word. It’s really cool,” she said.

According to TMZ, Lorde met Brett before her Las Vegas concert on Tuesday night.

Lorde and Bretty have been trying to work out a time to meet since she revealed he inspired the title of “Royals,” but they weren’t able to make it happen until this week.
