Lupita Nyong'o and Scarlett Johansson are reportedly in talks to join Disney's new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
If they board the planned live-action/CG film, they would join the already cast Idris Elba, who signed on to voice Shere Kahn in early March, while the role of Mowgli is still not cast.
Jon Favreau is helming the project based off Justin Marks script.
The two stars are currently in different stages of negotiation, with the 12 Years a Slave actress in final negotiations, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first learned of the news. She is being eyed to play the role of the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, Rakcha.
Meanwhile, Disney wants the Under the Skin star to play antagonist Kaa the python, though she is still in early talks. The python is well-known in the book for hypnotizing prey before devouring them.
The Jungle Book will be produced by Favreau and Brigham Taylor and is set for a theatrical release of Oct. 9, 2015.
This film would be Nyong'o's first role since she won an Academy Award this past March, and the news follows on the announcement that People selected her for the top spot in their "50 Most Beautiful" special issue.
