An Indiana man who unknowingly bought a stolen car last week and is left in shock after the rightful owner allowed him to keep the vehicle when he gave him a call.
According to Yahoo! News, the 72 year old man bought the 1993 Chrysler New Yorker for $300, in the rightful owner's name. The man said he had a feeling that the deal on the vehicle he bought was too good to be true which led him to giving the owner, Derk West, a call.
West told WFIE, that the 72 year old man was on a fixed income.
"He was out $300, he was out the money and he was just, really upset. He told us, ‘Too good to be true.’ I just drove the car for several years as a work car…By the time it was over, I worked it out, I just wound up giving him the car. He needed it worse than I did," said West.
The authorities were able to track down the thief, Donald Grisby of Evansville, Indiana, because he signed the receipt using his own name and his social security number. Grigsby was arrested by the Vanderburh County Sheriff's Department.
