An Alabama man was so fed up with being burglarized that he decided to set a trap over the weekend and opened fire when the robbers took the bait.

According to the New York Daily News, a homeowner in Jefferson County had been hit by burglars twice in two weeks so he decided to fight back. The man parked his car up the street from his house and walked back so it would appear that he was not home. Then he sat waiting, with a pistol in his hand.

A pair of unsuspecting thieves did show up later that evening and the man fired shots into the ground as he chased them off his property. The crooks jumped into a getaway car and sped off.

Police responded to the home and asked the owner why he did not report the first two break-ins. The man explained that he wanted to take matters into his own hands and scare the robbers off, hopefully for good.

No one was hurt during the incident and nothing was stolen from the house.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian told AL.com that the criminals appeared to have gained access into the home through a back window.

"What we have here is a pretty savvy homeowner that has had enough of these thugs coming his way,'' Christian said. "If I were them I would steer clear of him. Hopefully we can lock them up before they get themselves killed."
