Mariah Carey is reportedly following in the footsteps of Beyonce and releasing a surprise album, just like the “Drunk in Love” singer did with her self-titled album in December.

Carey started working on the album, her 14th studio ablum, back in 2010 and it’s seen many delays due in part by giving birth to her twins with husband Nick Cannon and an unforeseen shoulder injury.

According to Billboard, Carey and her team have decided on taking the same approach as Beyonce when releasing the album – doing it all on her terms and not doing any promotion for it.

“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title," Care said. She also revealed how personal the title is to her, explaining it’s based off a “personal possession of mine that's part of an entity that I've had almost all my life."

In a Billboard cover story, Carey and her manager Jermaine Dupri talk openly about the reasons the album has been delayed for so long.
