Mars Volta members Omar Rodrigues-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, previous drummer Dave Elitch and well-known, shirtless Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea, came together to form a new balled called Antemasque.
On Mars Volta’s Debut album in 2003, flea provided back up on bass for De-Loused in the Comatorium and provided trumpet on two songs for Frances the Mute, their 2005 follow-up album.
The recent group released a studio session video where viewers can see them work on a new song with a punk, edgy sound. The video gives an inside look at the group dabbling with their instruments. Flea discusses a unique bass designed by Damien Hirst, which comes fully equipped with real butterflies worked into the paint job.
Mars Volta called it quits last January where Bixler-Zavala took to twitter to announce the end. "I tried my hardest to keep it going but Bosnian Rainbows was all we got instead," referring the new group formed by Rodríguez-López's, reports Rolling Stone.
Antemasque made a post on their Facebook page, leading to a forum, stating that the new group is a full-time project and “not a side gig.” Rodriguez-Lopez will put all of his effort into Antemasque as well as Bosnian Rainbows, with their second album in the planning stages.
