When real weather events hit New York, Today Show meteorologist Al Roker is on the scene, so when a fake one hits the Big Apple, he should be there as well. Roker, along with Today anchor Matt Lauer, will be making cameos in the Sharknado sequel, adding a bit of realism to the project.
Roker and Lauer filmed their scene on Tuesday in the Today studio. They shared their scene on Today Wednesday. In the scene, Roker explains, “Think of it this way, this is a twister... with teeth. Enough said.” In another shot, Roker and Lauer get to put a spear through a green blob, which we assume will be replaced with a CG shark in the movie.

The Sharknado sequel, which has been dubbed The Second One, will premiere on SyFy on Thursday, July 31 at 9 p.m. It is a follow-up to last year’s Asylum studios hit, which caused a storm on Twitter, but didn’t really get that many viewers.
Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will be back for a second dose of shark storms, with Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Judd Hirsch and Judah Friedlander also making cameos. You can check out our interview with co-star Mark McGrath here.
