The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has earned a reputation for the star-studded collaborations that result when so many famous names converge on its campgrounds, and yesterday was no exception. During his Saturday set, Kid Cudi was joined onstage by high-profile indie pop stars MGMT for his hit track "Pursuit of Happiness," (which they helped produce) as well as by the sisters of Haim, who performed their collaboration "Red Eye" with him.

Kid Cudi also appeared on stage later that evening during MGMT's set in which he danced to "Electric Feel,"Pitchfork reports. Videos of both performances can be found on Consequence of Sound.

Other notable surprise appearances invited by the festival's hip image and proximity to Hollywood include Justin Bieber performing with Chance The Rapper, Beyonce Knowles singing with Solange, and Jay Z rapping alongside Nas.

While Coachella has drawn criticism for the changes that its ever-increasing attendance has brought to the festival's ethos, surprise appearances like this remind us of the unique experiences made possible by such a diverse gathering of musicians.
