Michaels stores recently confirmed that millions of credit and debit cards might have been affected in security problem.
According to USA Today, the arts and crafts store said Thursday that roughly 2.6 million cards may have been breached by sophisticated malware.
The company says that the stolen data includes the card numbers and expiration dates however there is no proof that information such as names on the card, addresses or debit PIN numbers were hit.
This comes several months after the initial report was released that the company may have been attacked causing worry to its customers.
Ever since the 2013 Black Friday Target stores scandal in which over 40 million debit and credit card numbers were stolen, customers have been weary of companies and the apparent lack of security measures.
“Our customers are always number one priority and we are truly sorry for any inconvenience or concern Michaels may have caused,” Chuck Rublin, CEO of Michaels, said in a statement.
Michaels stores may have been affected during the period between May 8, 2013 and Jan. 27, 2014. The company also confirmed that a small number of Michaels affiliate, Aaron Brothers stores, may have also been hit between June 26, 2013 and Feb. 27, 2014.
