The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) has released a report that shows that movie tickets have decreased during the first quarter from $8.35 to $7.96. This is a 4.7% decrease in prices for movie tickets.
The price might have declined because of an absence of 3D revenues. Top grossing films such as The Lego Movie, Divergent and Ride Along did not bring in high revenues, Variety reported.
Another key factor that might have resulted in the decrease was the fact that mostly children attended the widely popular Lego Movie. Children pay lower ticket prices. Deadline added that Frozen was also a major box office player and that film was normally attended by children.
Back in the 2013 fourth quarter, films such as Gravity and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug brought in large box office dollars and both were in 3D. This resulted in surcharges on movie tickets for attendees.
According to the NATO, the price of a movie ticket back in 2013 was $8.13.
