Jane Got A Gun, the indie Western Natalie Portman is starring in and co-produced, is set to hit theaters in February 2015.
The film has been surrounded by controversies, with a director switch at the start of production, male leads dropping out left and right and a lawsuit. Now, the producers hope to put all that behind them and get the movie in front of audiences.
Relativity and The Weinstein Company, which picked up the project in May 2013, have scheduled the film for release on Feb. 20 in the U.S., reports Variety. This is the first film to be scheduled for that day.
Jane had a troubled production, starting with original director Lynne Ramsay getting fired. The producers filed a lawsuit against her, claiming that she not only failed in her duties as director, but also didn’t work on the script as she was hired to do so. The lawsuit was finally settled in March, but terms were not disclosed.
With Ramsay out and Warrior director Gavin O’Connor in, the issues were not over. Michael Fassbender, Jude Law and Bradley Cooper were all attached to star in the lead villain role, but each of them dropped out. Eventually, Portman’s Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor was cast in the role.
Joel Edgerton stars as Portman’s former lover and Noah Emmerich plays her husband. She has to protect her husband from a gang of criminals who want to kill him.
