The president of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, wished the writer a “speedy recovery” on his Twitter feed. For more than 30 years, Garcia Marquez has lived in Mexico City.

Nobel Prize winning writer, 87, is considered one of the most popular authors writing for the Spanish language. Garcia Marquez is a Columbian novelist, screenwriter, and journalist who wrote One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera.

He is known for his style of writing known as magical realism. Magical realism was considered a new genre, according to some critics. Garcia Marquez received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.
