Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez was admitted into a Mexico City hospital earlier in the week.
According to The Associated Press, federal health officials revealed the news that the 87-year-old man popularly known as Gabo was in the hospital, but wouldn't elaborate any further. CNN reports, however, that Marquez was hospitalized because of lung and urinary tract infections, along with dehydration.
Mexican President Enrique Pena tweeted, "I wish him a speedy recovery." Juan Manuel Santos, Colombia's president, also tweeted, "All of Colombia wishes a speedy recovery to the greatest of all time."
Gabo is reportedly doing well after being treated with antibiotics, but will remain in the hospital for the time being.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Marquez is best known for his iconic 1967 novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, which paved the way for the takeoff of the magical realism genre. Gabo also wrote Love in the Time of Cholera and The Autumn of the Patriarch.
Marquez was given the Nobel Prize for literature in 1982.
