TLC’s former manager, Pebbles, who is credited for discovering the group was not to happy about her portrayal in the VH1 biopic movie about the group. Aside from expressing her disdain via social media, Pebbles has taken her issues with the movie to court.
According to Vibe, Pebbles, real name Perri Reid is suing VH1’s parent company Viacom for defamation of her character. The suit was filed on Friday in an Atlanta court.
She is suing the company for $40 million dollars over the movie titled CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.
Reid claims the 2013 movie portrays her as a “conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain,” notes Page Six.
In the film, Reid’s character controlled TLC’s accountants, lawyers and hid the terms of the groups contract from them for personal financial gains. Reid claims she never did such things and that she paid the girls of TLC what they were owed.
TLC’s second studio album, CrazySexyCool sold more than $11 million copies in 1994 but the group filed for bankruptcy afterwards. TLC also sued LaFace Records and Reid’s Pebbitone saying they were only paid $50,000 a year in 1993 and 1994 notes Page Six.
When the movie premiered in 2013, the surviving members of TLC, Tionne T-Boz Watkins and Rozonda Chilli Thomas expressed that they were pleased with the film and that Pebbles portrayal was accurate notes Hip Hop Wired.
A Viacom spokesperson said the company does not comment on legal issues.
