The rumor that Daft Punk would be joining Pharrell Williams at Coachella has been laid to rest.
Pharrell compensated by bringing out, quite possibly, the most guest performers Coachella has ever seen in one performance. His 60-minute set included: Nelly, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Diplo, and Gwen Stefani. Those who did not run away from the sand storm were truly rewarded.
Billboard.com reports on Pharrell’s shocking introduction of Gwen Stefani. He noted her as being “incredible, historical” and the “most important girl in the world” – all of which is true. They took the crowd all the way back to the classic, “Hollaback Girl.” Pharrell, further, praised Gwen by referring to her as the Queen.
The Los Angeles Times claims Pharrell blew his performance due to his complaints about the wind and the loss of his voice. However, the show did go on. Though half of his performance was filled with other artists, it never undermined his own talent.
The singer/producer/song-writer has proved his capability of delivering a worthy performance, as we have seen from his many appearances this year. He knows how to be a solo performer, but that is not who he is. It is expected that he have as many guest stars as he did due to the multitude of records he has been apart of over the years. His happiness to be included in this year’s Coachella lineup outshined his multiple complaints of the weather.
