A Pennsylvania toddler was struck and killed by a van Saturday afternoon after returning home from his father’s funeral.

According to NBC10 Philadelphia, four-year-old Karder Harvey had just returned home from his funeral of his father, Derrick Brown, late Saturday afternoon when the incident occurred. The toddler apparently saw his mother standing across the street and when he tried to run to her, he was hit by the passing van.

"I seen him laying on the ground and I was holding him and telling him to hold on, hold on Karder," the boy’s great aunt, Denise Brown, told NBC Philadelphia.

Hardy, who suffered severe head trauma, was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, but it was too late.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

According to The Daily Mail, the 42-year-old driver of the van remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with police.

Police are treating Karder Harvey’s death as a tragic accident.

Derrick Brown, Karder Harvey’s father, was murdered last just last Saturday. He was struck by a bullet while in the crossfire of a shooting. Police believe he was an innocent bystander.

"It's too much for the family to deal with all in one day," family friend, Kathy Pappas, told NBC Philadelphia.
