Minneapolis police made 19 arrests Saturday night after crowds filled the streets of Dinkytown after the Gophers’ NCAA hockey title game loss.

The Gophers lost 7-4 to Union College in the title game and dozens of fans filled into the streets of Dinkytown after the game at approximately 9:30 p.m., next to the University of Minnesota campus, according to The Washington Times.

Around 300 police offers were ready at the scene, armed with riot gear and on horses and bikes to control the rowdy crowd. They pushed students away in an attempt to empty the streets.

Students in the crowd were throwing bottles, yelling and jumping on cars. Police said two incidents of arson were reported, in addition to property damage, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Many students said they didn’t plan to riot and simply just wanted to celebrate.

“I totally understand the need and why it’s happening,” said Kerri Haider, a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, according to CBS Minnesota. I think it’s over excessive because we’re all trying to have fun tonight and we’re not rioting. Nobody is rioting.
