Despite there being video evidence, the RadiumOne CEO will not see any jail time after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges.
Gurbaksh Chalal reportedly was caught on surveillance beating his girlfriend 117 times over 30 minutes and a complaint listed 45 felony counts and two misdemeanors, reports Business Insider. The tech CEO was accused of hitting his girlfriend Juliet Kakish in the head, dragging her to the floor from the bed, threatening her life and more.
The incident allegedly stemmed from Kakish admitting to sleeping with another man while in Las Vegas, according to The San Francisco Examiner.
The case should have been an easy one with video evidence, but UPI reports the judge disallowed the video tape's use. San Francisco Superior Court Judge Brendan Conroy ruled that police illegally obtained the surveillance tape.
Prosecutors claimed that the tape would likely be erased by the time they got a warrant and had to grab the tape just to be safe. The case against Chalal further fell apart after Kakish refused to testify or help further in the case.
So instead, the 31-year-old millionaire will only have to go through a year of domestic violence training, 25 hours of community service and three years of probation. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence and battery.
