Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street is not done making headlines for its intense and over the top content. The film is just premiering in Russia and three cinema chains and two other movie theaters have been fined $112,770 for showing the film that shows drug-use propaganda.
The Hollywood Reporter added that a court in Novosibirsk, responded to a complaint from the Federal Service for Narcotics Control which explained that the film showcased drug use and the subculture of drug abusers.
A court in Novosibirsk, the informal capital of Siberia, responded to a complaint from the local office of the Federal Service for Narcotics Control and ruled that the film "reflected a subculture of drug abusers" and idealized the use of illegal drugs, The Moscow Times added.
The ruling was based on a national law which the country's regions has the rights to interpret and explain.
Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo Dicaprio and Jonah Hill. The film tells the story of Jordan Belmonte and his over the top lifestyle.
