Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson announced on Wednesday that he has filed for divorce from his wife of two years.

Wilson released a statement on his decision to end his marriage with Ashton Meem, reports ESPN. "I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce." He added that both he and Ashton "respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy."

The young Super Bowl-winning quarterback also noted in the statement that he would not be commenting any more on the situation.

Wilson and Meem were married in April 2012 after dating while they were both in high school.

The Seahawks player got a new teammate on Monday in the form of Terrelle Pryor, who the Oakland Raiders traded for a seventh-round pick. The move gives the team another mobile QB, with some starting experience, but who could also potentially be used in other ways on the field.

Wilson spoke positively about Pryor on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday, according to NFL.com. He said Pryor is a "great competitor" and Wilson is "looking forward" to what the other quarterback can bring.
