Sean Penn has been chosen to direct The Last Face, which stars Charlize Theron, Javier Bardem and Adele Exarchopoulos.
The script was penned by Erin Dingham, with Bill Pohlad of River Road on board to produce and finance the film, reports Variety. Matt Palmieri and Bill Gerber will produce alongside Pohlad.
Pohlad and Penn have worked together at least three times before, on Into the Wild, Fair Game and Tree of Life. Penn directed Wild, while Terrence Malick had directing duties in the Life.
According to Deadline, the film is set to film in Africa and revolves around Bardem and Theron's characters. They will both play doctors who are in Africa doing humanitarian relief work, while Exarchopoulos will be a journalist.
The Last Face follows Theron and Bardem as they deal with love and making the moral choice on top of being in an area engulfed in a violent and political conflict.
If the film is given the approval to move ahead, production will start this summer.
