Laurel Schlemmer, a 40-year-old mother from McCandless, Pa., allegedly held her second son underwater in a bathtub in hopes of drowning him. He died on Saturday and was declared brain dead.
Daniel Schlemmer was only six years old when he died, and his death occurred just four days after his three-year-old brother, Luke, died from drowning in the bathtub as reported by American Livewire.
Their mother is being held in the Allegheny County Jail for charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other counts, according to Triblive. The father could not be reached for comment. He was at work at the time the drowning occurred.
Schlemmer reportedly told county authorities that she tried to drown her two children by sitting them in the bathtub after her seven-year-old son left for school.
She also allegedly said that drowning her two other sons would allow them to go to heaven while she could become a better mother to her surviving son.
