There are reports of a shooting going on at Fort Hood, Texas with police saying there is an active shooter.

According to KENS 5, the shooting first started at around 4:25 p.m. local time. Police are already on the scene. Those inside the base have been told to seek shelter where they are.

News is still coming in about the shooting, but it has been reported that around 20 rounds were fired outside of the base and that the shooter then went into the medical brigade building. A solider posted at Ford Hood also said that it looks like a standoff was underway.

KVUE reports that at least one person is dead after the shooting began, but KENS 5 notes it has not received any word about casualties at the base.

The nearby Central Texas College has been shutdown for the day and all remaining classes cancelled and the Metroplex Hospital in Killeen has been told to wait on standby.

Fort Hood officials are said to be handling the shooter, with the Killeen police saying they are not currently involved.

In 2009, the same base witnessed a mass shooting by Maj. Nidal Hasan that left 13 people dead and over 30 injured. Hasan was later found guilty and sentenced to death.
