Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on Monday that the studio's film Pixels, which stars Adam Sandler, will be hitting theaters during summer 2015.
The film, which has Chris Columbus in the director chair, will hit theaters on May 15,2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That date pits the video game action comedy against Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road.
The script for Pixels was written by Tim Herlihy and Tim Downling, and is based off a short film from 2010 made by One More Production and Patrick Jean.
Herlihy, Seth Gordon, Jack Giarraputo, Heather Parry and Barry Bernardi will executive produce the film, while Sandler, Allen Covert, Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe will produce.
The main cast of the film includes Sandler, Kevin James, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, Frozen's Josh Gad and Michelle Monaghan.
Pixels is about a group of video game arcade players who are brought together to help save the planet against aliens who believe that video feeds of classic video games are actually a declaration of war. As they attack Earth, they base their attack strategies off the classic arcade games. James is on board to play the U.S. president.
