The Fort Wayne Parks Department in Indiana has a large problem on their hands after a squirrel got into the electrical equipment at a renovated community center.
According to The Associated Press, the lost squirrel made its way into the electrical equipment of a community center and caused a massive power surge, which caused $300,000 worth of damage to the heating and air conditioning systems, and the boiler system. The squirrel did not survive.
According to The Journal Gazette, the community center was originally an ice rink, which closed in 2009. It has taken five years and 4.5 million dollars to convert the former ice rink into a community center, which hosts basketball courts, an indoor track, and other sports oriented arenas.
Despite the many of the core systems of the structure being shot, officials are still optimistic that the community center will be able to open by June 7 as the building was insured and crews are working tirelessly to repair the damage.
