Foxcatcher, the highly anticipated film from Moneyball director Bennett Miller, has earned a November release date, putting it in a prime position to make an awards season run. The film will make its world premiere next month at the Cannes International Film Festival.
Sony Pictures Classics, which is distributing the film, made the announcement on Twitter. The film will open on Nov. 14. SPC also distributed Miller’s first film, Capote and Sony released Moneyball.
Foxcatcher was actually supposed to open last year and would have had to compete against 12 Years A Slave, Gravity and American Hustle. However, SPC took it off the 2013 release calendar just after it was announced as the opening film of the American Film Institute festival. The official reason for the move was to give the crew more time to work on the movie.
Now, though, it looks like Miller’s work is nearly done. Last week, it was announced that it will screen in competition in Cannes, which starts on May 14.
The film stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. It is a major shift for Carell, who is best known for comedies. Based on the minute-long trailer released last year, though, this is about as far from Crazy Stupid Love as he can get.
