Steven Spielberg has been attached to yet another project. The legendary director has been linked to The BFG, an adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl classic. However, the untitled Cold War thriller with Tom Hanks that he was linked to earlier in the week may come first.
The Lincoln director is reportedly looking to get his next two movies set, according to TheWrap. It is likely that the Tom Hanks project could be filmed as soon as September before he moves on to The BFG. Hanks, who has worked with Spielberg three times before, has even cleared his fall schedule to make the movie, which centers on the U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers. Hanks would play James Donovan, an attorney who negotiated with the USSR for Powers’ release.
As for the Dahl adaptation, that project has been in development hell since DreamWorks acquired the rights in 2011. The Hollywood Reporter notes that John Madden, Chris columbus and others have been set to direct the project, but it never got off the ground. Frank Marshall is producing with Michael Siegel and E.T. writer Melissa Mathison is working on the script.
The BFG was published in 1982 and centers on a Big Friendly Giant who befriends an orphan girl.
This is the latest project that Spielberg has been attached to. These two will take precedent over the other ones, though. Moctezuma and Robopocalypse have been set aside and its not known when he would make The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara.
