Strong early tracking of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. new Godzilla movie points to the possibility of the film earning more than $60 million in domestic opening weekend.
Though the movie doesn't hit theaters until the middle of May, early insider estimates place the movie for a strong domestic box office start, followed by even better international numbers, reports Variety.
Ahead of the film's opening, there has reportedly been strong buzz, thanks largely to teaser trailers and promotion at various festivals. The film was even the most-watched trailer on YouTube between Jan. 1 and March 31.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two studios who financed the film together are likely happy to hear the $160 million film is likely to start strong. Legendary paid for 75 percent of the movie and Warner Bros. financed the rest.
The film has a strong cast, which includes Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, to help attract audiences to theaters when the rebooted origin film hits theaters on May 16.
Early tracking reportedly shows that while males are the most excited in the movie, Cranston's presence could bring in the female viewers as well.
