The Who has announced that in honor of their 50th anniversary as a rock 'n' roll group, they will be going on tour starting around Christmas time. The band will play the U.K. first and after those shows head to North America. The band is calling this an entire world tour.
Pete Townshend, in a recent interview with Billboard spoke about the fact that at this stage in their lives, the group is ready to head back out on the road. "It will be a world tour. I'm not crazy about going on the road, but I'm in good shape and once I start doing it -- and I'm still very good at it -- I'll take some pleasure from it," said Townshend.
The last time the band went on tour was back in 2012 and 2013, in honor of celebrating Quadrophenia their classic 1973 album.
Along with this upcoming world tour, the band is also looking towards the possibility of new music. Townshend elaborated on the idea explaining that he had over 20,000 hours of music to go through, which could result in possible songs. "I'll be pulling some songs out of [his long-gestating project] 'Floss' to give to Roger [Daltrey] to see if we've got enough to make an album. It might be a big waste of time, but I'm hoping there will be an album," Townshend detailed.
It was reported back in 2013 that the band was planning a farewell tour back in 2015, Ultimate Classic Rock reported. It has not yet been announced if this world tour would in fact be a farewell tour.
