This week in Hip-Hop, Wu-Tang Clan has already received offers for their secret album; Drakes released two brand new singles the same week; Wale and Common joined forces in a Rick Ross remix; and Spike Lee directed Eminem's newest music video.
Last week, we learned that the Wu-Tang Clan have had an album in the works since 1997. The group announced that they will release only one copy of "The Wu — Once Upon a Time in Shaolin," and sell for a price in the millions. According to Billboard, RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, has already received offers for the album, one of them being around five million dollars!
"I don't know how to measure it, but it gives us an idea that what we're doing is being understood by some," says RZA. "And there are some good peers of mine also, who are very high-ranking in the film business and the music business, sending me a lot of good will. It's been real positive." The album will consist of 31 tracks and will be presented in a nickel box created by British Moroccan artist, Yahya. There is still no new information about the release date of the album.
This week Drake released two new songs within a day of each other. On April Fools Day, he released "Draft Day" which samples "Doo Wop" by Lauryn Hill. The song which was produced with a fellow Toronto artist, Boi-1da, and features lyrics justifying Drake position in Hip-Hop. The second, "Days In The East," is much more laid-back. Produced by 40 and Party Next Door, the low tempo & hypnotizing rhythm sets the tone for Drake's emotion-filled lyrics about his history with love.
Wale drops a remix of a song off of fellow Maybach Music Group member, Rick Ross. The remix "Sunshine" from The Gifted features Rick Ross, Common and Wale rapping about the good things in life. Listen to this celebratory, upbeat track below.
