An Afghan security guard opened fire on a group of foreign doctors in a Kabul hospital funded by a U.S. Christian Charity on Thursday morning.
The round of fire killed three American physicians and wounded an American nurse. Minister of Health Soraya Dalil told the Associated Press, "A child specialist doctor who was working in this hospital for the last seven years for the people of Afghanistan was killed and also two others who were here to meet him, and they were also American nationals. The two visitors were father and son, and a woman who was also in the visiting group was wounded."
This is the latest of deadly attacks on foreign civilians in the Kabul this year. Minister of Health Soraya Dalil said one of the victims was a Cure International doctor. In 2005, the Cure organization placed medical personnel in the hospital, according to Reuters. Approximately 27 doctors and 64 nurses are employed there now.
The Cure Hospital security guard who killed the medical personnel was detained, according to the ministry. The motive on the gunman is not yet clear.
