On Wednesday, April 2, Tom Daley made the announcement, “I am a gay man now.”
In December of last year, Daley spoke out on a YouTube video telling fans that he was bisexual.
“Of course I still fancy girls,” Daley had said on the video according to E! News. Then, after that, it was revealed that Daley is dating Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning screenwriter.
According to E! News, Daley confirmed that he was gay on Keith Lemon’s Celebrity Juice, and that he only wants to be with men.
Daley also revealed why he decided that coming out on YouTube was the best option.
“I came out on YouTube as I wanted to say what I wanted to say without anyone twisting it,” Daley explained. “I told my family before I told the world. I was terrified. I did not know what the reaction was going to be.”
When Daley was prompted to reveal other celebrities who may be in the closet, Daley didn’t share.
“We don’t all sit down and write down each other’s names- it’s not like the AA+,” Daley said according to Daily Mail.
He shared that his opinion that, one’s sexuality should not matter to other people, and no one should care.
According to Daily Mail, Daley has also been nominated for his first gay award at the inaugural “Gay Oscars” which will be held at London’s Landmark Hotel on April 25. The awards are meant to bring gay celebrities and allies of the LGBTI community.
