If you are currently in a relationship, you may want to think twice before you share this story on Twitter. A new study claims that Twitter users are more likely to have fights with their significant other, even if you are in a long-term relationship.

The study comes from the University of Missouri and the lead author is Russell Clayton, who asked 581 Twitter users about their use of the social network. According to The Washington Post, has also asked how often the person had arguments about Twitter with their significant other and if they’d ever cheated with someone they met on Twitter. He did ask if “Twitter has led to a breakup/divorce.”

Clayton concluded that the use of Twitter - or even the perceived use - can put a strain on a relationship.

However, there is reason to be skeptical over the results. As Slate notes, his survey pool was very small - anyone whose significant other didn’t use Twitter was disqualified. He didn’t survey anyone who didn’t use Twitter, so there was no comparison between Twitter users and non-Twitter users.
