Two 4-year-old children were killed and three others injured from a house fire that broke out Saturday night in Queens.
According to The NY Daily News, the fire started in the basement of the two-story home in Far Rockaway, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Saturday.
Four year old siblings Jai'Launi Tinglin and Ana Tinglin were in cardiac arrest and rushed to St. John’s Hospital. They were unable to be saved and ultimately died of smoke inhalation.
Jai’Launi’s twin sister, as well as their grandfather and aunt, were also rushed to the hospital. They all remain in stable condition.
According to police, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, reports The NY Times.
The kids were visiting their grandfather at the house and were in the basement when the blaze erupted.
“I don't know what happened, I just came down and saw smoke and ran outside. I didn't even put shoes on," said the kid’s great-grandmother, Estelle Jackson. “They were just visiting. I didn't know they were here.”
Family members gathered at the home hours after the fire.
