The U.S. Navy rescued a one-year-old girl who became ill while on a sailboat with her parents and sister.

KDVR reported that the toddler’s family made a distress call to the Coast Guard Thursday morning and members of the 129th Rescue Wing were dispatched to rescue the girl 900 miles off the coast of Mexico.

Eric and his wife, Charlotte Kaufman of San Diego, blogged that they had plans to cross the Pacific with their daughters Cora, 3, and one-year-old Lyra after leaving Mexico two weeks ago.

The Kaufman’s had been experiencing difficulties with choppy weather causing sea sickness. When they called for help, their youngest daughter had developed a rash, was vomiting and had diarrhea.

CNN noted that the family thanked everyone involved in the rescue mission.

"We are very thankful to be safe and well. We also appreciate all the concern, thoughts and prayers of everyone back home for the health of our daughter Lyra. She is doing well now, and her medical condition continues to improve," they said in a statement.

The child was on a U.S. Navy frigate Sunday and is said to be in stable condition.
